Asbestos Waste

Summary

How to follow asbestos waste regulatory requirements and use the Asbestos Waste Shipment Record (AWSR) Management System to track waste shipments.

Who is this for?

  • Building and operations management.
  • Harvard construction project managers.
  • Service contractors and vendors engaged in Harvard construction projects.

Managing asbestos waste

You must dispose of all asbestos waste generated from a Harvard construction, demolition, or renovation project at an approved disposal facility within 45 days of leaving campus to meet regulatory requirements.

Asbestos abatement contractors must:

  • Have an active contract with Harvard.
  • Be an EHS qualified vendor.
  • Attend an AWSR management system training session.
  • Use the AWSR management system for all asbestos waste generated from construction, demolition, and renovation projects (except for waste that is shipped on a hazardous waste manifest because it also contains materials like lead or PCBs).

Using the Asbestos Waste Shipment Record Management System

Building managers and asbestos abatement contractors can use the online AWSR Management System to:

  • Manage AWSRs.
  • Track regulatory waste shipping and disposal compliance dates.

Use your user ID and password to access the AWSR Management System.
